I wanted to find a way to easily teach six and seven year old children how to Journal write. We often expect our children to free write in their Journals (or notebook, or writing book or whatever you want to call it). Children often struggle with the expectations of this. Which lines do they write on? Where do they put the date. What do they write about? And then I thought, why not make a few videos to show how I do it?
I’ve started a You Tube channel. I’m so excited because this has taken a lot of work for me to figure out. I’m adding new lessons every few days. Click on the links below to take you to the lesson you want to see.
- Lesson 1 Writing on the Lines This is an 8 min video. Below you can find it broken into smaller steps that you could show to your students.
- Lesson 1a Different Types of Lined Paper introduction

- Lesson 1c Interlined Paper
- Lesson 1d Ruled With 2 Lines

- Lesson 2 What to Write When You Don’t Know What to Write About.
I hope these videos help you. These are great to post up for online or distance learning, especially at the start of the school year when you are trying to teach clear expectations and set up routines.
